All God's creatures, great and small...

...and in this case, tiny.  Very tiny, with tiny bunny feet.  Found this little baby sitting on our breezeway last night.  Poor thing..can't be very old, but it was soooo very soft.  I just love the little blaze on it's head.

Way off the 'cute' scale...

All alone in a big world...

  5. Question:  What do you do with a tiny, fragile baby rabbit who shows up on your front step on a hot summer evening?

As it turned out, there wasn't much we could do.  We thought about turning it loose in the tree farm (since we are certain that is where it came from), but we all knew it's chances for survivial were nil.  Then Sam found the body of it's sibling in the garage, and Kari took this one to an animal welfare acquaintance of hers.  Her friend advised us not to turn it loose because 1) it was unlikely the baby would be reunited with the mother, and 2) even if the baby was adopted by another rabbit family, that mother would probably eat it.  He advised her to feed it cat food (????) and bring the baby bunny to him.  So she placed the bunny in a pet carrier and left, but the bunny expired before she reached her friend's place.  Small animals, especially rabbits, experience heart failure when frightened, and sadly this little one was no exception.  :(

A very sad ending for such a brief heart-warming moment.  Such is the order of things in the animal world.  It took me back to my childhood days when I had a pet rabbit; a had several and I trained each one how to use a litter box.  None of them lived very long; one was injured by my younger sister and the other one just died one day.
