Buckle Them Up...Please

Tragedy has struck the community of Spokane in a horrible way.  This morning on the news I learned of an automobile accident, a head-on collision involving two vehicles.   The driver of one vehicle crossed the center line.  He is alive and in the hospital.  Investigators believe weather contributed to the crash, and alcohol is not suspected.  The driver of the other vehicle survived and is hospitalized, but his five children, ranging in age from 2 years to 12 years, did not survive.  None of the children were wearing seat belts.

Before you put that vehicle in drive, make sure all your passengers are always buckled up.  Please.

MSN has the story, click >here<

Be safe out there.  Jimmy has an entry related to driving, too.  With an unhappy ending as well.  Click >here< to read his entry.

This breaks my heart!  It's an awful way to learn a lesson.  No words will speak better to families who don't want to buckle than this terrible loss.  :(  Penny

This is devastating news Dona, five children lost. It is illegal here not to be wearing seat belts, but I still see people driving without them.

It's the law here too as well, but that doesn't seem to matter.

there is a family at our school that carpools 5 kids and both adults (their sisters) in a little firebird - the two youngest are toddlers and still supposed to be in shoulder restraint car seats and none of them are EVER buckled.  It makes me ill to see them drive out of the parking lot.  I have asked the principal if there is anything they can do and have been told no - I'm tempted to call the local police and see what they can do about it :-)

Oh it was so sad to read your journal and hear that five kids lossed their lives like that.  Understand to well lossed my young Sister and her son to a Doctor driving drunk in Pennsylvania and  our family hasn't ever gotten over their being gone. Of course in our situatiion, the Doctor walked away from the accident and we were left to endure the heartbreak and pain.

In this case, why don't parents buckle their kids up, to me that is just part of loving them.  So sad....my heart aches for the children that didn't have a chance to really live.
